"Alamo" Movie Set
Dripping Springs, Texas

It was a beautiful Saturday. The morning coolness transformed into a midafternoon sunny breeze. Not to hot, yet not cool enough. Just one of those days where one is oblivious to the weather and enthralled by the hill country beauty.

On our trip to Dripping Springs, Chuck, Rhonda and their three young men followed us from Houston. Julia Aguilar, President SFHS, J.B., Joanna and myself were in the lead car. We checked in at the guard gate using our pass word and were instructed to wait a short distance into the property. One car after another started arriving. Maria, Tony and Gabie were some of the first to arrive. Shortly thereafter, arrived Tracy, Julie Jordan and their their girls along with cousin Hope Herrera Kerr. Paul and Nancy came in from San Antonio , Jack and Freddy arrived from Brownsville and Maria and Fil made it just in time from Grapevine to join the tour. We waited a short while longer until everyone was there and ready to travel further onto the ranch and to the movie set. I noticed our Vice President, Juries, was a little nervous probably excited, as she puffed away on her cigerette.

I could tell by the look on all of their faces that they were excited and filled with anticipation of what was to be seen and experienced. We arrived at our destination with a great sense of adventure. The moment was almost at hand to be projected back into time, a time of beauty and romance , yet a time filled with turmoil.

1836, Bejar, Tejas was filled with strangers some seeking adventure and others seeking wealth and yet others just seeking a new start in a new land. The inhabitants felt that there was a great change developing in the country of their birth, a feeling of pending danger, filled with the unknown, yet a sense of promise of a better future and a more free way of life. Somehow all of them were correct.

The set of the Alamo was designed with such accuracy that if you just let your mind wander for a moment you were somehow magically back in that historic town. It was an awesome experience, for that moment you could hear the voices of those gallant, hasty, brash and daring men that had come to Texas each for their own reasons, but finally gathered for one cause at the Alamo; to defend Texas and gain her independence at all cost.

The tour was conducted by Mr. Ernie Malik of Texia Productions, Inc. Mr. Malik is the publicist for the movie "Alamo".

His knowledge of Texas history and the events leading up to the Alamo battle and San Jacinto , only added excitement to our adventure. Everyone listened very attentively to his description of the different characters, their roles and of course our unriveted attention when he spoke of Jordi Molla, AKA, Juan Seguin. From what Mr. Malik described to us, Juan Seguin is being portrayed with dignity and honor and has a pivital role in this new movie, "Alamo".

A part of Texas history is being told that is long over due and I, like my family, leave my final judgment until we view the movie which is scheduled to be released in December 2003.

Mr. Malik, on behalf of The Seguin Family Historical Society, our most sincere Thank you.
Thank you for the tour, for your time, energy and your dedication to a project which will help to enlighten the general public of the dedication and sacrifices of Texans like Juan Seguin - his story is yet to be told.

Yes, we all had a wonderful time, but the most important item on our agenda, is the promotion of our ancestor Col. Juan N. Seguin. We must bear in mind to continue in our quest to help educate the general public at large of Juan Seguin's contributions, and needless to say, his many sacrifices, in helping to obtain a free and independent Texas.

It is important to let our youngsters know of their birth right and heritage so that they too may hold their heads up high and proud in the knowledge that our ancestors helped to make the Great State of Texas what it is today.
